De luchtaanval van 20 December 1942 was gericht op de stad Duisburg. Van de 232 toestellen waren er 111 van het type Lancaster, een viermotorige zware bommenwerper met een beman-ning van zeven koppen. Een van de twaalf neergeschoten vliegtuigen was de Lancaster R5512 met de registratie OF-C van 97 Squadron van de Royal Air Force. Drie bemanningsleden werden de volgende dag geborgen en begraven op De Nieuwe Ooster in Amsterdam.
Translation "The air raid of 20 December 1942 targeted the city of Duisburg. Of the 232 aircraft that took part, 111 were Lancasters, a four-engine heavy bomber with a crew of seven. One of the twelve aircraft shot down that night was Lancaster R5512 OF-C, of 97 Sqn RAF. The bodies of three crew members were recovered the following day and were buried at De Nieuwe Ooster cemetery in Amsterdam." |

| The remains of the aircraft and 4 crew were found in September 1962 when during construction of the IJtunnel. The remains of all four airmen were laid to rest in Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery on 20 December 1962. |
